The S&P/ASX 200 is the flagship Australian equity benchmark, tracking the 200 largest companies listed on the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) by float-adjusted market capitalisation. It is maintained by S&P Dow Jones in partnership with the ASX and is the index most professional investors use to measure Australian large-cap performance. Heavily weighted to financials (the "big four" banks — CBA, NAB, ANZ, Westpac) and materials/mining (BHP, Rio Tinto, Fortescue), it is sensitive to commodity prices (especially iron ore and gold), Chinese demand, RBA policy and AUD moves. The cash index updates during ASX hours (10:00–16:00 AEST); SPI 200 futures trade nearly 24/5.
